Reposted from @originalshift Kevin Hatt’s photographic work at Stussy
During what is often thought to be the golden era of the classic streetwear label, Kevin Hatt photographed several campaigns for #Stussy from 1994 to 1997 alongside Creative Director Paul Mittleman. Photographing with incredible freedom, Hatt and Mittleman were open to creating whatever vision they saw fit.
The latter saw the potential in utilising Hatt’s street photography style, shooting the clothes in action as they skated and engaged with their surroundings. Starring the likes of Aaron Bondaroff (or A-Ron) who helped run #Supreme’s first store in ’94, they tapped into skate communities and subcultures despite the increasing commerciality of the brand, keeping Stussy grounded in its roots while simultaneously featuring models.
Arguably the most successful work Hatt made was a series of shots for Stussy’s outdoor inspired line, shooting against huge photographic backgrounds of nature scenes in fitting with the inspirations behind the clothing.
